24:7 Extras Casting Call - War Stories War Stories is a new collaboration between the 24:7 Theatre Festival in Manchester and You Are Here Festival in Canberra, Australia, to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War. Written by Rob Johnston (UK) and Emma Gibson (Australia) and directed by Benedict Power, the play follows an adventurous Australian Nurse through a series of dangerous encounters, which eventually bring her to a French psychiatric hospital in 1916. Whilst caring for a wounded young British soldier, suffering from severe memory loss, she reveals little, but gradually we learn the terrifying nature of both of their pasts. Elsie - Female - Late Twenties - Australian Nurse (from Victoria/Melbourne) A country girl searching for adventure whilst trying to locate her ANZAC brothers, she travels through Europe and North Africa to aid the war effort from 1914-1916. She is confident, funny and fearless - mostly - her positivity and optimistic zeal seeing her through many challenging experiences. Genuine Australian (Victoria/Melbourne) accent, or experience playing that accent is desirable - otherwise strong ability with accents is essential. The actor will need to be physically and imaginatively creative. Bernard - late twenties - British Soldier (from Manchester) Suffering from memory loss and recovering in a French hospital in 1916. He is determined, intelligent and expressive - a journalist and writer before he enlisted - but understandably frightened and confused by his current situation. Ideally he will have fairly clear speech with a Northern Accent, but not too strong. (Not a well spoken and clipped RP however) Experience of performing script-in-hand will be useful for both actors. There is a small fee for this project, to be discussed at the audition. Please send a short submission of interest along with your CV to: [email protected] Submissions close this Saturday 28th June at midnight. Successful applicants will be contacted on Sunday 29th June, given a short scene to prepare and called for audition at the 24:7 offices on Quay Street, on Monday 30th June between 11am - 4pm. All applicants must be available for a half hour slot during those times! If successful, both actors must be available for rehearsals from Monday 7th July until the performances on Tuesday 22nd (All Day) and Wednesday 23rd of July (At least until 6pm). A schedule will be arranged that can accommodate some other commitments but a substantial amount of rehearsal will be required from both actors - this will be discussed at auditions. As Elsies story runs throughout the whole play, a greater time commitment will be required for this role.
