27 years ago to this day was that classic game in the 1987 Canada Cup final between Canada and our hated rivals the Soviets. It culminated in this legendary Gretzky-to-Lemieux goal with a minute and a half left. The players on the ice for Canada were Lemieux, Gretzky, Dale Hawerchuk, Larry Murphy, Paul Coffey and Grant Fuhr. All comfortably in the Hockey Hall of Fame today. This is why Gretzky is the best player there ever was, watch his patience in passing the puck, he knew he was giving it to Lemieux. He was always two steps ahead of everyone. Youd think Murphy would have gotten that puck Gretzky knew better than all of us. And Mario, wow, roofs it top corner where mama keeps the peanut butter!
