3 girls slip into dam, one of them feared dead in Anantnag Locals protest, set ablaze government building Srinagar, June 24:Three girls slipped into a dam constructed by Irrigation and Flood Control Department at Chinigund Anantnag, triggering of protests by locals who alleged set ablaze a government building in the south Kashmir district on Tuesday evening. While two of the girls have been evacuated to hospital, efforts were on to trace out another girl, who is feared dead, official sources told GNS. They said that incident occurred when the girls, two of the sisters, slipped into the dam while playing this afternoon. As such the news about the incident spread in the area, the locals of the village and its adjoining area rushed to the spot, they said. In the meantime, they said, police also reached the spot and launched the searches to retrieve the girls. Two of the girls, Meenu (15) daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad Rather and Nazima (15) daughter of Mohammad Ishfaq Parray, were recovered and rushed to hospital in critical condition. Regarding another girl, Misbah (13), sister of Meenu, they said, she is feared to be dead and efforts were on to retrieve her body. Meanwhile, they said, the angry protesters set ablaze a government building nearby and when reports last came in, protesters were going on. The locals blame irrigation department of keeping the dam unfenced from one side which according to them resulted in the incident, they added.
