54 known arrests in France for hate speech, glorification of terrorism, or anti-semetism. No matter where your idealism may lead you, it is not a simple thing, this freedom of speech. What do you do with people who sympathize with an event which lead to numerous deaths? You let them speak. Their incarceration is fodder for radical Islam and we need the moderate muslims to be sympathetic to at least SOME of our ideals. Listen, lives will be lost from this. Me saying that they shouldnt do what they are doing wont change this. Lives are already greatly lost in places where our relatives dont abide, and where we dared not vacation to. It is only inevitable that this would spill over into our realm of peaceful discourse, because our ideals via our economy and culture has already spilled over onto nearly everyone. Islam has its own structure and its own economy, and globalization along with Westernization has almost a complete counter-view to it. Therein lies the conflict. It is true, some Muslisms havent been honorable losers in the entire scheme, but who would be an honorable loser in our social system? We treat our losers like garbage - material that has no potential and to be thrown on the pile of other useless human waste, whos saving quality might be that they were used efficiently as spending consumers (Eh?). True Islamic societies at least have the Zakat (the tax on Muslims) and the Jizya for people of the book (Christians and Jews) where a portion of all earnings go SPECIFICALLY to the poorest, and might actually produce a virtuous and well-functioning society. Why would you need Wall-Street, corporations, or a profit-model to be added to this? More accepting that some would give credit, but not entirely. The times are complicated, especially for the secularist with religious sympathies. Criticisms of Islam must go hand-in-hand with condemnation of other religions be they Christian or Jewish in saying that this is ALL a bad idea. Those devoted can mold the religious text to fit current times, which can result in a desirable and virtuous society. Children might be raised on good, universal ideals and might themselves grow up and function, given this society operates within the structure and that the text is still the most basic common reference between people. Here is the pitfall of religious texts: The needs of people, and the most useful instruction of one time will change. Two thousand years reign is nothing to the age of the earth - hand cutting for thievery may still be a useful tool for some even in 2015. It was a Christian tool relatively lately on a geologic time scale, but it will not be a useful tool always? Will we progress from this according to the most optimistic text by any religion? No. The most religious, being those who most represent religion to secularists, are always keen to see that there may be an end soon, without any democratic consensus as most things are done to decide social standings. For the people who propagate this utter nonsense, their end could come no sooner. I gave arguments that those arrested in France were entirely WRONG in doing so, as the religious should have rights just as much as the secularists, who dominate France more than the United States of America. Being a Frenchman myself, I feel that President Hollande is doing a disservice to not only France, but Europe, by allowing this constraint of free speech. Especially at a time when anti-Islamic rallies are taking place in Dresden, Germany. I will continue the defense of the minority in Europe, while also taking on the powerful Islamists in Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Iran among others.
