A Love Initiative - Day 65 “All To Myself” A deliciously selfish sentiment... “All To Myself” is the opening track to the GOD’S CREATION - CD. GOD’S CREATION is Us! It’s relationships - human, warm, loving, sentimental, sensual and sometimes devious. It’s the human condition. “I need you all to myself; don’t want nobody sharing your love” is a deliciously selfish sentiment with diabolical undertones - now that’s juicy! It’s as powerful as the ‘till death do us part’ commitment of Romeo and Juliet and as lethal as the pathology of Glen Close in “Basic Instinct.” It’s the underpinning of true fidelity or the jealous, possessive rantings of a violent abuser - “if I can’t have you no one will.” When developing a lyric; I try to create a subtle range of possibilities in order to produce depth and make the narrative accessible but interesting. Also; realizing our experiences are uniquely personal, the listener has to be allowed to custom fit the song to self. One listener’s time for celebration may be another’s time for healing.“I’ve Been A Fool For You” could be interpreted in about a dozen different ways and I suspect that’s the secret behind it’s staying power. Picture Glenn Close telling Michael Douglas; “I need you all to myself; don’t want nobody sharing your love.” LOL! There’s a menacing undertone... look at her sly, twisted smile... Douglas appears frightened and I can hear the scene music change, invoking the spirit and psyche of Hitchcock? Uh oh! What deep dark devious scheme is Close concocting now? LOL! Sadly; shelters and prison cells echo the nightmares and misfortunes of this sentiment gone completely out of control - pushed beyond the limits of love. On the other hand; I can remember making a special appearance for a young Florida couple celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary - it blew my mind; so I know that when love is at its best; these words, and words like them, protect and preserve the hopes and dreams of love everlasting.
