****A Message from the Chief **** Yesterday at 7:45 p.m. Officers were called to 1100 blk. of 16 St N. for a burglary and assault that had just occurred. Upon arrival officers found that an unidentified male entered an apartment and held three female roommates at knife-point. One of the females fought back and all three managed to escape by fleeing to other apartments. The male fled from the building. A K-9 track led west for a short distance before the track was lost. The suspect was a white/light-skinned male, 5’6” to 5’9”, thin build, wearing a black coat, dark pants, gloves and a black cloth over his face. Because this incident is under investigation, we wont be commenting or answering questions regarding further details in this incident. However, as the chief I think its appropriate for me to comment on issues surrounding this. First, this is a time for our community to offer its support to these three young women that were victimized and went through this horrible and frightening situation. However, we need to find ways to convey that support while at the same time respecting the privacy of these three young women. Second, this is a time to have a community conversation about personal safety. Ill be reaching out to my fellow area law enforcement leaders. Perhaps together we can work with our local universities and colleges to put some personal safety messages and training together that enhance the safety of our communities. Third, we need your help to catch this predator. If you were in the neighborhood described above and saw anything you thought was suspicious or someone who was acting in a suspicious manner, please call us. Thanks, Chief David Todd
