A PSA from me for EVERYBODY (especially Maria Fuentes, who works in that neighborhood)! All of you please read this! I usually crack jokes, but not this time. I am dead serious this time. Something happened to me today that EVERYONE needs to be aware of, because it could very easily and very randomly happen to any of you as it did me today! To make a long story short: I had to do something today, so I drove out there. Unfortunately for me, it was in a bad neighborhhood, but also luckily for me, I knew that and prepared myself for anything, just in case. My Caution #1. My instincts were right! As I pulled up to the place to do my business, there was a black teenager walking on the sidewalk past me and my car. (Not that his race matters any.) I made sure to keep my eyes on him, since I didnt trust anybody in that neighborhood. My Caution #2. He walked several feet past me and my car and stopped and turned around and looked at me too. I had to take my eyes off him for a couple seconds to get my stuff. When I looked back up, he was tying a handkerchief around his face like a bandit while approaching me! I knew right then that he was up to something, probably to rob me, maybe even to kill me. And this was in broad daylight too! I put my hand in my pocket and reached for my car keys, in case there was a violent confrontation, because it was the only weapon I had to defend myself with. I was planning on punching him in the face with the car keys between my fingers/fist, as hard as I could. All this was happening while I stared him down. My eyes never left him (good thing!), and neither of us uttered a single word the whole time. And then, believe it or not, I could see out of the corner of my eye, another handkerchiefed bandit teenager behind and beside him, also coming toward me, ready to join him. But I showed no fear on my face, because I knew that if I did show any fear, they would only be more likely to attack me. But him (the first one) getting close to me didnt happen. Because about a foot or two before he got within arms-length reach of me, I started yelling as loud as I could, HELP! HELP! HELP!, of course, to attract as much attention as I could. It must have taken as him by surprise and freaked him out, and he was not expecting that. Plus probably his fear and nervousness of being caught. First, he turned around and ran away from me FAST and then turned the corner. Then the other guy bolted too, right behind him! I still kept yelling for about 30 more seconds, to make sure they were gone! And then, believe it or not, I proceeded with my business as if nothing had happened, since I was already there. This whole incident with the two teenagers must have happened in a matter of seconds. And yes, I told the police afterward. But no, I was unable to get a description of the two, so they are still at large. Believe it or not, I am actually untraumatized and unphased by this, because, (and Im being totally serious) Ive been watching so many kung fu movies and Bruce Lee movies for over 40 years now that Im now de-sensitized to these things happening, whether they are in the movies, on TV, or even in real-life! And because Ive been through a lot worse near-death experiences in my lifetime to really be scared of a couple of punk teenagers! But who knows what might have happened to me, had they decided to attack me and double-team me, even if they are only teenagers? This makes yet another (possible) near-death experience for me! And one that I was able to avoid by being paranoid and playing it smart! So my lessons to all of you are: Be aware of your surroundings! Not blissfully ignorant and not paying attention to whats going on around you! It just might save your life! Be prepared for anything, in case of any sudden attacks. (In my case, I had my car keys ready!). And thankfully, I did indeed keep my eye on that guy. Yell loudly at the top of your lungs and become spastic if youre ever attacked! It also just might save your life! I have never been confronted like this before! This is another new experience for me and one that I hope never happens to me ever again! I only wish that I had this all captured on videotape, so you can see for yourself exactly all this happening! PLEASE TELL THIS STORY TO ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS, BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY TRUE STORY THAT HAPPENED TO ME AND WHY NOT YOU TOO? P.S. Too bad Bob Wall wasnt there with me today. I would have loved to see him take them two out in less than five minutes, as he once claimed to me that he can do. I challenge anybody to last even five minutes in a ring with me!
