A Review of our cd True Grass Revival by the Magazine, Banjo NewsLetter. A current CD by the young duo of Marteka and William Lake showcase their talents and prove that playing quality bluegrass music is not just an “older person’s game.” Marteka and William have patterned themselves after Lester and Earl. Who could ask for better models? Marteka’s crisp banjo work would make many veteran pickers jealous, and her brother William’s handling of Lester-Flatt-style guitar is something that many pickers don’t even know how to do. Their CD “True Grass Revival” consists of 11 traditional banjo instrumentals and songs taken essentially from Lester and Earl, with their own musicianship added to the mix. You’ll hear classics like Shuckin the Corn and Foggy Mt. Breakdown, vocals such as Petticoat Junction and Salty Dog Blues, and even a great recording of Old Joe Clark, something that Earl only rarely picked in private jam sessions
