A Sunday Ride Volunteer! We have just added a Sunday ride to the schedule. Jim Rolfe will be the ride starter for the Hempstead Melon Trail ride, starting at 8:00 a.m. in Hempstead. It looks like Sunday should be pretty nice. Sunday 09/22/2013 8:00 a.m. HEMPSTEAD MELON TRAIL One of our prettiest rides. Meandering flat to rolling country roads, a few long grades, not much traffic. Routes of 23, 37, 41, 50 miles. If you want to get creative, here are other options to combine routes for different distances. Stores at Field Store Community and at the Hwy. 6 crossing. To get there, go northwest on US-290 to Hempstead. Exit on FM 1488 south into Hempstead. Turn right on Business 290 into "downtown". Go past the light (McDonalds will be on your left), cross the RR tracks then turn left. Park behind the City Hall building (it used to be fire station), one block off 290, 12th near Main.
