A TRUE Sad Christmas (Dinner) Story Well, I think Im calmed enough to tell you about Christmas dinner. . . We has guests, Paul, Lisa and the kids, Eva and Roy...had big plans. I got ready to do my baking Christmas eve and the lower element in my oven was out!! :O Just as an aside. . .I dont remember if I have mentioned my cookies the past couple of weeks. Evidently, the element has been going out for a while, because every time I tried to make cookies, the bottoms were raw and stuck to the pan. I had to scrape them off as best I could, flip them over and cook them some more.. ( now, you would have thought Id have picked up there being a stove problem, wouldnt you? Lisa and I noticed Thanksgiving it just didnt seem to be working right) However, we proceeded as best we could. . .My Christmas ever baking day was a terrible shock to me though. I made a home-made pecan pie(for the first time in years) and it looked so pretty. . .put in in the oven and when the timer went off, took it out and it was BURNED BLACK! :O Thats when we finally figured out it was the element. Of course nothing was open where we could get one. I was beside myself. Finally we called Paul and Lisa and they came through like a troopers. Harry took the prime ribs up to them and they prepared them as well as the ham they were preparing. I had intended to bake several veggie casseroles, but ended up preparing them stove top instead. It was the first time Roy and Eva had eaten with us and I was mortified, though they couldnt have been sweeter. She brought a delicious fruit salad and we ended up having a good time. I told Harry later, it was pretty nervy of us to invite guests to join us for Christmas dinner, then send the main entree to them to prepare and bring out! :(
