A Toy for Each Child By John Doherty Christmas Day may be past - TopicsExpress

A Toy for Each Child By John Doherty Christmas Day may be past but Día de Reyes, or Three Kings Day, celebrated each January 6, is still ahead. This is the day when children in Mexico traditionally receive gifts from los Reyes Magos, and we want to assist to make this happen. The toy collection for children in rural communities is well underway. But the toy bins are only half full, and we continue to need the community’s help. There are over 1,000 children who are hoping that los Reyes Magos will bring them a gift on this special day. The children who will receive the toys are girls and boys in rural communities between the ages of 3-12. Our request is that you provide one small inexpensive and unwrapped toy. It could be something like a soccer ball, a toy truck or car, a fashion doll, a game or a book. Please consider dropping one inexpensive unwrapped toy in the bins located around town, including Solutions (Recreo) La Conexion (Aldama location), El Caracol Condominiums, OKO Noodle Bar, Buen Dia Café, Hank’s New Orleans Cafe & Oyster Bar, Café Muro, Café Rama, La Firenze and Keith’s Longhorn Smokehouse. The bins will remain in place until we deliver the toys in early January. This is the fifth wonderful year that kids have welcomed the Three Kings and through past experience we have found that there is traditionally a shortage of toys for older children. You may wish to consider giving a book for an older girl or a soccer ball for a boy, which is truly appreciated by boys of all ages. These are available at Mega for 49 pesos. If you wish, we can assist by doing the shopping for you. Simply contact John Doherty to work out the arrangements. Please help us put smiles on the faces of many children this January on Día de Reyes. We thank you and wish Happy Holidays to all!
