A Westmont High School sophomore has organized a conference to raise awareness about human trafficking. Completing an assignment in her Changemakers class, a new Westmont High School course that allows students to explore various passion projects, sophomore Heather Blaney researched human trafficking and discussed the topic with local law enforcement and health workers. Blaneys work and research have materialized, and she will host a panel of experts May 14 at the school to present their stance on human trafficking. From 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Westmont High School auditorium, representatives from the FBI, Illinois Women Religious Against Human Trafficking and Compassionate Communities for Children will discuss human trafficking and its impact on society. Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force, PROMISE/Salvation Army and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will also participate in the event. All are welcome to attend the panel discussion.
