A couple of days ago, world soccer governing body FIFA released a list of 23 best footballers for 2014. Since the invention of The World Footballer of the Year accolade in 1991, only once have we seen a player winning the award from a non-World Cup winning team (that was magical Lionel Messi in 2010). All others have emerged from World Cup winning squads. Remember Brazilian Romario in 1994, French Zinedine Zidane 1998, Brazilian Ronaldo 2002, Italian Fabio Cannavaro 2006...its only 2010 that FIFA changed the norm! In my view, I think German midfielder Toni Kroos deserves this years award. In this year, hes been very instrumental for his teams hence collecting three major trophies. Thats to say, Bayern Munich winning a domestic double and above all Germany winning the most-coveted trophy-the World Cup. When you critically analyse all the players performances for their clubs and countries, you will certainly concur with me. My winner is TONI KROOS.
