A do remember what started out a normal school day, we were half way thru a religious knowledge lesson when a new boy was introduced to school and our class [sit him next to john was the instruction from the teacher [a teacher whos name I forget] other than the fact he was a priest/teacher least he always had a priest collar on... giving the new boy a sideway glance I remember thinking he does look slightly over spotty still whatever. on with what I was writing only to be interupted by a loud rythmic banging which on inspection turned out to be the new boy on all fours under the school desk banging his head repeatedly as hard as he could.the instruction from the teacher was to put him on top of the coconut matting that was alway kept in a 5 foot high pile in a corner of the school hall normal used for p.e. exercise. after a brief stuggle and the help of some of the other lads he was left to got on with banging his head to the point were he eventually passed out [leaving him looking very much like a porcupine with the bristles from the matting sticking out of his head....obviously an epeleptic fit which was never explained to us...there were other ocassions in the school yard were he would go glassy eyed,as stiff as a board and collapse to the floor always doing severe damage to his head..there was one such time where he had lost his glasses and I remember thinking least hes not going to smash his glasses this time he didnt last long at rosegrove and disappeared as quick as he came...Ive often wondered how he got on in life [just my thoughts] he should never have been introduced to normal school life least not thrown in the to deep end of it...and in todays society it would not happen as he would have been given the special needs he obviously required. [guess that was life in the sixties and rosegrove.]
