A fan of Three Times A Lady posted this today, and it should be shared with all of you. Good moment of the day: I was assigned to the express lane today; so I wasnt as busy as I am on a regular lane. At one point, I had two customers come up at about the same time; a woman in her 40s or so and an elder gentleman...he may have been in his 70s. As Im ringing up her order, the man places his items on the counter: A box of donuts from our bakery and a container of our delis fresh cooked fried chicken. The woman apparently notices as well, because as Im ringing up her purchases, she says to me, Put his things on my order. I raise my eyebrows asking Are you sure? She nods, so I take my hand held scanner and zap his donuts and chicken and give her the total. She pays and smiles saying, Have a nice day! and leaves. I bag the mans things and he holds out a $20 bill. No Sir, I explain, the woman ahead of you paid for your things. She what? Pushing his hand with the cash back toward him I affirm, The woman ahead of you asked me to put your items onto her total. Your things are already paid for. His smile was genuine ... if slightly confused. So I suggest, Maybe you can use your money to help someone else today? They call it paying it forward. He smiles a little bigger, puts his money back in his wallet and softly says, Well Ill be. Handing him his sack, I say, Thank you for shopping at Meijer Sir. And off he went! Have you ever paid it forward or had someone do it for you? Share your story here.
