A favorite holiday book and movie is The Polar Express, but how many know it was inspired by a real locomotive, the Pere Marquette 1225 (its real number) which sat on the campus of the University of Michigan in the authors hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan for some years. It was restored to operating condition and has now been pulling railfan/tourist trains for 26 years, longer than the 10 years it pulled freight trains. It is a Berkshire type (2-8-4) built by Lima Locomotive, quite similar to the Nickel Plate 765 in Ft Wayne, IN. Thanks to Rhonda Avery for the information. https://youtube/watch?v=pU83R96rZlE
