A government does not grant you rights. We do not have freedom of speech, firearm rights etc because our benevolent government just happens to let us. The government is granted the right of existence by us, the people, who naturally possess the right to alter and recycle it. The government cannot decide, through force of majority or autocracy, to eliminate natural rights. The defense of that is highlighted through the oaths of those who have served their country. If you honestly believe that it is because of the government that we have freedom of speech, you are an example of the citizen that allows dictators to take hold. Entire cultures have risen and fallen depending upon their defense of their natural rights from government who forget that they serve the people, not the other way around.
