A little note about my experience flogging the Southern - TopicsExpress

A little note about my experience flogging the Southern Horizon............. I live in a tiny street (6 houses) that really only the residents who live in it need to go down in a quiet little part of Euroa (a town of only 2500). A couple of months ago, I ran my Southern Horizon up the ramshackle little flagpole I put out front of home (see pic). Reaction from neighbours has been extremely positive - in what is a very old (second-oldest average aged population in the State), conservative (always voted National) seat of farmers and agricultural workers, with a population 95% Anglo Aussie (least ethnically diverse local government region in Victoria). Only 2 people (very elderly ladies) said they wouldnt change under any circumstances - yet even they thought the SH very nice. A few of my neighbours have guessed what it is (an alternative suggestion), have approved of the symbols and colours and even commented it is nice that it doesnt refer to one group or another (eg English or Indigenous). Most interesting part, however, has been when at one time or another, four different people have come up to me as Im sitting outside a local cafe having a coffee / reading the paper and asked me Whats the story with the flag you fly? When I tell them that the idea of flying it is to get people to do just what theyve done - ie ask about it - they stop and have a bit of a chat. All seem pretty happy to consider that maybe its time to change - and 3 of them said at least it was good to see what a possible alternative looks like, even if its not one that theyd choose themselves (although one did ask where he could buy a copy from!). Based on my own little experience - in such a traditional, conservative area such as Euroa - I think the move could catch more positive reaction than many people think. Cheers.
