Massage therapists are notorious in believing what they want to - TopicsExpress

Massage therapists are notorious in believing what they want to believe without any regards to science. It is easier to make magical statements that have no real backing than it is to spend time on actually researching what does and does not happen with massage. Its hard also to accept that the stuff we were taught in school may not actually be true. Yet, thats whats happening with the toxin, drinking water, being dehydrated, lactic acid topics. People get defensive when their beliefs get challenged. They also get defensive when they cant back up what they tout as truths. Cmon folks, dont you want to be credible to your clients? Dont you want to be the best therapist you can be? Its so much easier to sit back and make up stuff than it is to grab ahold of new knowledge. But, whether it be ignorance, laziness, stubborness or just the inability to accept change, should we not try to overcome these barriers to be professional and credible therapists? We owe it, not just to ourselves, but to our clients. Some of the attitudes of the therapists in a recent thread are appalling. You consider yourselves healers (not my word, whole different topic) and yet you exhibit behaviour reminiscent of schoolyard playgrounds. Im thinking some of it is due to the nature of argument on forums like facebook. It sometimes brings out the worst in people. No matter, Its disgusting. So, get over yourself. Do your research. Give some respect to each other. And put on your professional face.
