A parent asks our group: We just had our neurology appointment and our speech evaluation this week. Neurology went wonderfully and she confirmed most of our thinking with SPD, she will be referring with the OT and the Speech therapist on their findings. Upon getting our OT evaluation, we discovered that our son had very low muscle tone in his upper body, we knew he had it in his lower body from having seen an orthopedic specialist when he was 18 months old due to a delay in walking, which sorted itself out. Anyway, when I took him to the speech therapist, she too told me that he had very low muscle tone in his jaw, preventing him from forming words properly. I guess my question is, is this normal for SPD kids to have low muscle tone head to toe or is this/could this be something completely different. We start horn and straw therapy soon in order to build these muscles and have a neurologist follow-up in October. Thank you all in advance for any advise/ personal stories
