A recent study took 93 subjects and placed them on a 1400 cal diet. 1/2 were told to to eat the majority of their calories at breakfast and the other 1/2 were told to eat the majority of calories at their dinner. The breakfast eaters lost 10 additional lbs over the ones who ate the majority of calories at night. This is yet another example of how a good breakfast can make or break you. Most people do the exact opposite, eat little to nothing in the morning and then over eat at night. Make time for breakfast it is THAT important! The study also showed the breakfast eaters had lower levels of fats in their blood and better blood sugar levels which lowered their risk of heart attack and type 2 diabetes. There is also a lot of evidence linked to a 1/2 protein 1/2 carb breakfast so when I tell patients that having a slice of whole wheat bread or some fruit in the morning (or at YOUR morning meal) is OK, it really is the BEST time to have that particular meal combo :)
