A to-do list for Goa CM on this independence day: ( courtesy Bernardo De Souza) Corruption: in spite of the “zero tolerance to corruption” election platform, the CM has admitted that everyone is corrupt, therefore a 100% tolerance to corruption is the only option for his administration. • SEZ: CM against SEZ when in opposition but now offers 30% land to forestall a SC decision expected to be unfavourable to the SEZ landholders. • CRZ violations are known to the government but little is done to prevent or redress the situation. • Massive environmental destruction with hill-cutting etc. • Mining scam: not a single paisa recovered from those who have looted Goa, in spite of the Shah commission reports. • Communalism: right-wing communalism is tolerated and even promoted by ministers leading to polarization and disharmony amongst the communities and threats to the tiatr performers. • Migration continues: vote bank supported migration and illegal slums on illegally occupied comunidade land continue. • RP 2021 continues to be on hold in spite of all the assurances given by the CM. This is to allow land sharks and construction companies to continue to destroy Goa with massive building projects. • Against casinos when in opposition, casinos on the Mandovi continue unabated in spite of periodic assurances from the CM. • Poor condition of roads: Goa’s roads are in a pitiable condition, potholes abound, causing accidents and fatalities. The PWD is, however, more focused on beachwear used by tourists on Goa’s beaches. • Public hospitals: rats at the morgue, stray dogs at the GMC, old Medical College heritage building used as a cheap guesthouse. • Language issue still unresolved. Goa is probably the only state in India where one of the state languages is in fact that of a neighbouring state. Is Konkani a state language of Maharashtra? • Airport: Even though Dabolim airport suffices to meet Goa’s requirements, MOPA is being promoted in a big way. • Traffic chaos: continues unabated in all the cities but no relief in sight. • Garbage: In spite of a high-level delegation visit to Europe paid by the taxpayers to “study” garbage management and the CM’s private visit to Kaiserslautern Germany, the situation continues to deteriorate. • Law and order: rape perpetrators are free e.g. Vasco schoolgirl rape, the Calvim accident culprits are free, the building collapse culprits are free, the Nigerian drug barons are free… • Junkets at the taxpayers expense: the Advocate General of Goa is paid more than any other in the whole of India, MLAs and other officials go on garbage junkets, football junkets, tourism promotion junkets and other junkets that we are not yet aware of. • Development: several development projects that would be needed e.g. in Mapusa are ignored.
