A vitamin supplement is a vitamin supplement. Right? Well---not - TopicsExpress

A vitamin supplement is a vitamin supplement. Right? Well---not exactly. There are synthetic vitamins that are created in a test tube and natural occurring vitamins. So what’s the difference? Synthetic vitamins require higher doses than natural vitamins since they are laboratory copies of molecules that occur otherwise in natural plant or animal sources. They are isolates because they mimic isolated parts or fractions of whole foods. Most commercial vitamins are chemically processed to varying degrees. The molecules in many synthetic vitamins appear identical in structure to the isolated molecules taken from plant or animal sources. But many synthetic vitamins fail to copy the exact molecular shapes of natural nutrients. Why is this important? Natural nutrients rotate in a D “dextro”, or right clockwise rotation. Synthetic nutrients rotate mostly in a Dl “levo” or left counterclockwise rotation. The molecules of the body also rotate in a clockwise direction making it easier to join with the natural nutrients. Synthetic vitamins are made through a chemical process that uses coal tar derivatives. They are less expensive to manufacture than natural vitamins. Coal tar is a material derived from fossil-fuel sources. It’s used in colorings, paint, and many other materials. It is also a known carcinogen. Natural vitamins are made with natural products or foods that have co-factors, or co-enzymes, which help process vitamins in the body. Synthetic vitamins steal the needed substance from the body or organs, often depleting it of nutrients it needs to function. Much of the synthetic vitamin passes through the urine unabsorbed. Real food and natural vitamins are better sources than synthetic ones. Synthetic vitamins are highly processed with many artificial and toxic ingredients that are not good for the body. A vitamin supplement should also contain micronutrients. Vitamins from natural food sources contain micronutrients. Micronutrients are related compounds that work in unison with a primary nutrient. A vitamin supplement should contain co-factors that assist in the absorption of the nutrients through the digestive system. How do you know a vitamin supplement contains all these ingredients?
