A volatile wasteland filled with a sulphur-rich atmosphere, - TopicsExpress

A volatile wasteland filled with a sulphur-rich atmosphere, whereas the ground level has sufficient heat and air for life to survive. The substance which covers the entirety of the planet seeks to eat rotting flesh, so long as it is dead. Over time, those who find themselves on this planet will eventually go mad, and after a longer time, they will turn on their friends, acting akin to zombies. In their undead state, the substance has no reason to destroy them, hence why there can be vast populations of these zombies on the surface of the planet. The planet was originally Venus, where it became a habitable land through terraforming technology. Humanity managed to reset Venus, and with that, they formed many colonies which would serve as the first planet humanity ever inhabited other than Earth. Cities soon formed, and after an age, it seemed that the humans would eventually be able to explore the very stars themselves. Though, even these successes could not suppress the dark secrets which lay upon Earth. Humans inhabited Venus due to the death of Earth, where the soil itself became hostile and wished death upon all life that existed, to a bacterial level. This was the origin of the black substance, currently unnamed, which would eventually strike the colonies on Venus, and cause a phenomenon which would rock the very foundations of life within the entire universe. Earth decayed to the point where the mantle became liquid, an immense amount of the black substance being the very ground forever. Over time, Earth would collapse, and with that collapse, travel hundreds of thousands of miles to strike the surface of Venus. Some argue that the black substance is not exclusively against life, rather, it was magnetically attracted to all forms of metal. The blob which once was Earth was the very projectile which seemingly ended humanity, coating Venus with its form to become more than twice the size it once was. An unexpected occurrence caused everything below the black substance to not be affected, thanks to advancing technology which involved electromagnetic shields, capable of enormous mass strains. These shields saved humanity, but it had them trapped - they could only survive by their own hands, creating an artificial sun, a much smaller size than the moon, which now orbited Venus. The moon had an unusual effect on the black substance - it would move toward it should the moon near, and be repelled once the moon moved away. Through using outside satellites and the existing structures on the moon, which held a small population of humans, scientists were able to find ways to cause the black substance to thin, and with it, give them a chance to break out of their darkened prison. Using the artificial sun and its gargantuan energy, humanity managed to burn a hole through the black substance, a permanent hole which allowed them to send spacecraft out again. Soon, a pillar was erected, which went all the way to the moon from the original surface of Venus, and this was the very thing which set things back on track. Humanity was numbered in hundreds of million, which was healthy enough to allow them to advance further. Throughout the years, they were able to scan the black substance which now seemed to lay dormant, not moving now the moon was locked in place where it was, save for the natural spinning of the planet due to the gravity of the sun. Within it, they were astonished to find preserved remains of structures and land which once were a part of Earth, now stuck within the seemingly impenetrable mass of black substance. Peaceful time soon elapsed. Humanity wasnt to worry about being trapped, and the artificial sun which now orbited Venus, halfway between the moon and planet, was being capable of shining through the black substance, causing all sorts of patterns to appear on humanitys new home. Time and immense sunrays later, the black substance was evaporating, but without forming clouds - it would literally become nothing as it was heated and taken away. What was left was many whole chunks of land and human structures left behind, on a thin crust which was formed by the union of black substance and electromagnetic shields. The crust was forced to be strengthened, unless the entirety of Venus would be vulnerable. Humanity soon built a civilisation on the empty landmasses above, to truly allow themselves to be closer to the stars. There were many issues with this, but after an extensive dome system was completed, everything fell into place. It was when people wished to explore, when an old nemesis came back into existence. The spaceship Andromeda was built entirely in outer space, a giant achievement which was said to be capable of extreme distance travel. With newly developed thrusters which required no air to ignite, Andromeda had a top speed of roughly 90,000 miles an hour, a great prospect for the travelling man. Everything was finalised, and on the 4th July, 2273, Andromeda made its maiden voyage around the solar system, before setting up a secure settlement on Mars. On the return journey, something odd took place within the ship. Many of the crew and passengers reported an odd stench, and visions which made little sense, depicting a blackened landscape and melting trees, with humans and animals having blackened, rotten flesh and yet, still moving around to find their prey. After a few months of the reporting, a rather large something occurred. Struck by a powerful ray of energy, the Andromeda was forced to land on a planet which had appeared directly underneath the hull, and with that, came a crash landing. There were no more communications between Andromeda and Venus, as it had now seemingly vanished.
