AFTER San Miguel Beer staged a comeback in the PBA last season, Purefoods is not far behind. A source told Spin.ph that San Mig Super Coffee is set to revert to the old and proud name which the franchise carried during the glory days of Alvin Patrimonio and Jerry Codinera in the nineties and in the early part of James Yaps career. According to the source, San Mig, which is coming off a historic grand slam, will now be rechristened to Purefoods Star Hotshots representing the company under the San Miguel Corp. umbrella that produces hotdogs, corned beef, nuggets and other food products. Nag-champion na kasi yung San Mig Coffee plus the brand already became a household name so its time to focus on promoting our other products, said an official, adding the switch will revealed in a press conference and launch at the new MegaTent in Libis, Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon. Purefoods is one of the most storied teams in the pro leagues history, and fans naturally didnt like the decision to switch names to Derby Ace Llamados back in 2009. The team has since undergone different name changes to B-Meg Llamados and later San Mig Coffee. Team superstar James Yap was surprised to hear about the development but welcomed it with open arms. Asked about the timing of the name change as San Mig is coming off four straight championships that included a grand slam, Yap shook his head. Hindi naman sa pangalan nakukuha yun.
