APPEAL :CAN YOU HELP US CATCH RUTHLESS ROBBER IN HEATH HAYES? We are appealing for help to catch a thief who attacked an elderly woman on her way home from shopping in Heath Hayes. At around 5pm on Friday 4 July, a 76 year-old woman who had been shopping at Tesco Store, Hawkes Green, Heath Hayes was pushing a shopping trolley containing her shopping across the pedestrian area to catch her bus. As she was passing the community centre/childrens nursery a male on a bike cycled up from behind her and grabbed her handbag, which had been hanging from her left wrist/arm. There was a struggle between them which ended when he pulled at the bag with such force that the woman lost hold of it and fell backwards to the ground, hitting her head and sustaining an injury which needed medical attention. He then cycled off with the handbag in the direction of the roundabout close to the petrol station. The male is described as white aged 19 - 20 years, 5ft 7in - 5ft 8in tall, thin build of a scruffy dirty appearance with a sallow complexion, with short dark hair and wearing a dark coloured top and dark black/grey stonewashed jeans. He was riding a mountain bike, possibly purplish/pink in colour. As well as the head injury the woman also had a bruised left wrist and was suffering from shock. The contents of the stolen handbag included the woman’s late husband’s watch, which is of great sentimental value. We are appealing for anybody who has either witnessed the incident or been offered the watch, a gold coloured rotary bracelet watch for sale to contact DC 669 Sally Dean on 01785 234205, 101 quoting incident 593 of 4 July or Crimestoppers.
