ATTENTION NLCC MEMBERS: Many of you may have noticed that a woman left copies of a 3 page plea letter on your windshield yesterday during our church service. She was pleading for help from individuals in the church to give her money to buy a car so she can care for her grandkids that are staying with her. First of all, we are very sympathetic to the needs of those IN our church first but also to those OUTSIDE of the church (community) as well. the elders have determined that we would give monthly to Our Home agency in order to help meet some of these community needs regularly. We also have a policy as overseers of the finances of the church to guard the limited alms money that we do take up every time we have a 5th Sunday in a month. One of the ways we do this is by stipulating that we will NOT help somebody a second time or beyond UNLESS they are willing to come in and get some financial counseling and spiritual support from one of the elders. This helps to stop the abuses of the welfare system Secondly, we have also asked that whenever someone approaches you in the church (or in the church setting) with a need for financial support that you bring that information to the elders. We typically know the situation and condition of those asking in the first place and we can better determine whether or not it would be wise for you or us to lend them support at the present time. Some have addictions, others have a lack of financial integrity, others fail to plan, some abuse the system, and yet some are legitimate needs that can and should be helped. There have been times in the past when the elders have refused to help those even within our own church because they have refused to heed our counsel in the first place. Because of scenarios like this (and countless others) we asks that you bring ANY and ALL such requests to one of us to review. If it is legit and we know that the person is not just taking advantage of our altruistic hearts we will help them, but sometimes that financial help includes imparting some wisdom into them as well. Lastly, we do not appreciate the method by which this request was made. This individual circumvented the leadership of our church with a very heart-felt plea in an attempt to fleece our flock in the name of Christian love and compassion. FYI, this morning we checked our phone log records on alms requests (we log EVERY name and need and have done so for years in order to not be taken advantage of) and this woman had asked us for help 6+ times since 2009. This is information that we have at the office that you are not privileged to, we understand. But it is for this very reason that we ask that you ALWAYS come to us with any requests for help from other individuals so we can make wise decisions with Kingdom finances.
