About three months ago, a county health inspector in a different county than where I live gave me an impromptu inspection. I get inspected all the time in the county where Im registered – where I live, and sometimes in other counties I serve in, as in this case. Ive been through this before... So this guy inspected me in February, gave me an A rating, then tells me to call his office on Monday and ask for instructions on how to pay the inspection fee. I said Why cant I pay you right now? Because thats not our policy. You have to call on Monday. Well give you instructions on how to pay. I can write you a check or give you cash right now! No, thats not how we do it. Call our office on Monday. No, Ive been through that dog & pony show before. The last time I called your office, my payment was never registered, and I had to dig up the canceled check to prove that I paid. Either take my money now, or bill me, so I have documentation. Ill pay that way. No. Our policy is that you call on Monday. Please do so. Thats not MY policy. Im not going to call. Please just send me a bill, and Ill pay it immediately. No sir. Fine. Im not calling your dysfunctional office again. But if you bill me, Ill pay you. ~ Off he went ~ Guess what I got in the mail today! A bill from that county health department asking me to kindly remit said payment. See how cooperative folks can be when your carrot is bigger than their stick? Still though, they didnt include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Looks like I still have more work to do.
