According to the Chicago Police Department there were 415 murders in Chicago in 2013 and 516 in 2012. I hear a lot of older brothers and sisters condemning the youth over the murder rate because the media uses clever rhetoric to make it seem like todays children are going crazy and its the end of days. I know things are bad but I also remember the 90s quite vividly. The same brothers and sisters condemning the youth right now were turning up during the crack era. In 1992 there were 943 murders (*In 1974 there were 970 murders for you old(er) school cats). So while conditions ARE deplorable and our situation DOES need a lot of work lets not paint these young men and women as a tragically lost generation with no hope please. Some experts say this generations youth are actually LESS violent than past decades. They definitely live a more sedentary lifestyle as a whole.
