According to the United Methodist Book of Discipline the purpose - TopicsExpress

According to the United Methodist Book of Discipline the purpose of the local church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. My own mission statement is to meet people where they are and walk with them as together we get closer to where God would have us be. In neither of those statements do I see that we the church or individuals are to judge each other or place unobtainable rules on each other. We are to love as Christ loved us. I am proud to say that the two churches I serve are taking steps to be who God would have us to be. The Neave church is making renovations to its facilities in order to be more open to all members of the community and more effectively do the ministries it currently does, (holiday meals for shut-ins), and plans to do. The Concord church recently voted to build a wheelchair ramp for a member of the community who is in need. On top of that we are starting Saturday, November 2nd to have an Alternative worship service aimed at presenting the message of Gods love in a style and language accessible to people in todays society. I believe if Christians today really want to follow Jesus then we need to be more like Him and love people regardless. The day of judgement is coming soon enough and we need to show people that regardless of what they have done God still loves them and through that love there is a hope of eternal life. There have been periods in the history of the church where we have spent more time condemning people to hell than in loving them into Gods kingdom. The time has come for His Kingdom to rule. May we all love one another as He has first loved us. May He be with us. Blessings, Pastor Yancy
