Accusation: He loves to be excessively praised and encourages it and does not rebuke those who praise him in such away. In fact in his presence his students and poets give him excessive veneration and say things like: ”If They Were to Melt Yahya al-Hajuri His Flesh Would Dissolve into the Book and the Sunnah!”, Imam Ath-Thaqalain (Imaam of Mankind and Jinn) and An-Naasih al-Ameen’ (trustworthy advisor). All of which is excessive veneration he likes and encourages. Response: The Stance Of Shaykh Yahya On Being Praised Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree, may Allah preserve him said: ”By Allah oh my brother I do not enjoy being praised neither from before nor afterwards and Allah is a witness and observes the hearts, some poets would come with some poetry which I would browse over and erase (i.e. some words) from it which deserves to be removed while some poets, I am shy to say to him come and let me check your poetry whereas perhaps he could be an old poet while a poet has with him zeal to defend (the truth) …, therefore a slip and a error can a occur , Allah has said : No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only) So it is upon us to advise…” Words Addressing Some Particular Praise Some Have Chosen To Mention Words addressing the following praise of Shaykh Yahya from a poet – “If They Were to Melt Yahya al-Hajuri His Flesh Would Dissolve into the Book and the Sunnah!” Shaykh AbdulHameed al-Hajooree said on 2 Rabee II 1430/ 28 March 2009: “as for Abu Muslim Al-Hajoori (the poet who uttered the above praise) he said: I only intended by that line the strong adherence of Shaykh Yahya, may Allah preserve him, to the Book and Sunnah and his severance upon who oppose it ,whereas that is from the angle of the statement of the Prophet “Ammaar’s mashaash (i.e. blood, flesh, all parst of his body) was filled (i.e. mixed) with eeman” and viewing that these lines of poetry have caused a wrong meaning, and some who are polluted by the fitnah have already made use of it to slander Dammaj and Shaykh Yahya may Allah preserve him. Thus I retract from it and I ask Allah to forgive me and repent to him and praise is to Allah, The Lord of all mankind. ” Words addressing the following praise of Shaykh Yahya from a poet: Imam Ath-Thaqalain (Imaam of Mankind and Jinn). Sheikh Yahya: “I tell you -may Allaah bless you- I am not to be held accountable for this particular statement, “Imam Ath-Thaqalain (Imaam of Mankind and Jinn).” I personally, have never and do not believe or approve of it, not in the past or present, and those present listen (and bear witness). A poet happened to err, and has already repented to Allaah; repentance from sins is recognized even amongst the Khawaarij let alone others! But despite this, they (the fitnah makers) continue repeating it, ‘Imam Ath-Thaqalain’. I have clarified this (before), and it has been released on the web. It was a mistake and I do not like exaggeration about me or others, and I seek refuge with Allaah. I believe in the saying of the Prophet: ‘Do not overpraise me as the (Christians) overpraised ‘Isa son of Maryam, for I am only Allaah’s slave and Messenger so say, ‘Allaah’s slave and Messenger.’ ‘They said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, our Sayyid (master, leader) and son of our Sayyid, best of us and the son of the best of us. He said, ‘O people, adhere to your previous statement, and do not be misled by the Shaytaan…’ So it, by Allaah, is not a statement of mine, nor do I approve of it…I did call his attention to it and I noted that it is a mistake. He has expunged and retracted it, so how is it that you still constantly reiterate it? They are on a hunt for anything to substantiate (the allegations) of extremism, that’s what this is. They are on a hunt for anything so as to substantiate (the allegations)! There is nothing.” Ref: aloloomenglish.net/vb/attachm…2&d=1365398102 (The Second Lofty advice for the Father, the Illustrious Scholar Sheikh Rabee page 42-43) (Side Point on the name Imam ath-Thaqalayn – This nickname (i.e. Imam ath-Thaqalayn) was found with some the scholars of the past and no scholar rebuked them. Al-Allamaah as-San’aanee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said in the book entitled Irshaad an-Naqaad (20): “…Then a fatwa was given by another faqheeh by the nickname the Muftee ath-Thaqalayn, whereas he permitted a hanafi getting married to a shafi’ and he based the reason being that the rulings of (marriage) pertaining to the people of the book is to be applied to her…” Al-Allaamah as-San’aanee, may Allah have mercy upon him, did not rebuke this nickname as some rebuked it Shaykh Yahya for it.) Words addressing the following praise of Shaykh Yahya from a poet: ‘An-Naasih al-Ameen’ (trustworthy advisor). Shaykh Yahya: “As for ‘An-Naasih al-Ameen’ (trustworthy advisor), by Allaah, this statement was uttered by the Shaykh (Muqbil) himself -may Allaah show him mercy- out of good opinion for me, and -Al-Hamdulillah- I ask Allaah to grant me success in sincerely advising the Muslims, and I ask Allaah that I be trustworthy. I do not like exaggeration. I tell many of them, ‘Erase this, I don’t want these words, remove this.’ And I do not like it. But the statement, ‘An-Naasih Al-Ameen’ is legitimate. Trustworthiness is present in the righteous and sincerity is present in the righteous -that’s one thing- it is legitimate. Another (proof for its acceptability is) in the penultimate hadith in the “Chapter treating of Dream Interpretation” in Sahih al-Bukhari. Al-Haafith (ibn Hajr) -may Allaah show him mercy- said, ‘And none is to interpret dreams except for one who is a scholar, beloved, naasih, ameen …’ such are his words in his explanation of the hadith. He even said about At-Tustury, in Al-Hilyah by Abu Nu’aim, ‘He was naasih ameen.’ And the Prophet said regarding Abu ‘Ubaidah, ‘Ameen of this ummah’. This is all a proof for the acceptability of this issue. As for me loving it? By Allaah, I do not love it. Rather I love to be humble, tranquil, and calm. Whoever says, ‘Naasih Ameen,’ I tell some of them, ‘Leave off such speech.’ And others (I disapprove in other ways)…” Ref: aloloomenglish.net/vb/attachm…2&d=1365398102 (The Second Lofty advice for the Father, the Illustrious Scholar Sheikh Rabee page 43-44) Accusation: They (Shaykh Yahyas students) have excessive veneration for him and he encourages it. Response: Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree has stated about the is accusation: “…Some of the (exaggerated) words could be read while I am preoccupied with papers, whereas I can (also) be busy with those seeking permission to be dismissed (from the lesson), by Allah some of them (i.e. words) we weren’t paying attention to…while we bring notice to (it) once I become aware of it or informed about it whereas I bring notice to it then” Also in another place Shaykh Yahya said “…Sometimes I may be busied from paying attention to the poems, they read and go. So if my attention is drawn (to a particular error) I call the poets attention to it…” Ref: aloloomenglish.net/vb/attachm…2&d=1365398102 (The Second Lofty advice for the Father, the Illustrious Scholar Sheikh Rabee page 42-43) (From the words of Shaykh Yahya here it is clear that he does not encourage praise of himself in fact when he realises someone excessively praise him he rejects that praise and discuss the persons statement with them (i.e. he tells them politely not to say such things about him inshallah.)) Some may ask why does Shaykh Yahya not rebuke those who excessively praise him: Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree said: “I advised them. It’s not imperative that I rebuke everyone that makes a mistake. It is not imperative. Were you to weigh out wealth for people by the basket-full whilst belittling, coercing, and forcing them, by Allaah, they would not be comfortable with you or accept your da’wah. However, if advice is given with kindness and gentleness, which is the way of the Messenger of Allaah, they will accept advice and benefit from it. My intention is to eliminate mistakes. My intention is not to compel the people and rebuke them; ‘You be quiet!’ or ‘Do this and that!’ My brother, this is wrong. This is wrong my brother.”
