Advise good and bad please. Sensible ideas only! I want a Lotus carlton. (Who dosnt!) Ive got a 2.0 CDX carlton at the moment with a hole in the block. In todays market its scrap but has got a good solid shell and 9 1/2 months mot. Thing is I wouldnt be happy abusing a LC and the power wouldnt really set the world on fire. Yes you can get 600bhp out of them fairly easy but at what cost? On top of the purchase price. And its also not the way to go on such an icon IMO. Now lets say I have got a budget of £15-20k Do I buy a real one and spend a fair bit making it nice and be scared to abuse it? OR build a replica with a mental engine & running gear? I am thinking buy a smashed up Monaro for around £4-5k then supercharge it for about 600bhp another £2k I Would rather keep away from supra, nissan stuff. Would prefer a V than a straight 6. Was also looking at possibly Bmw V10 M5 engine (500bhp) Audi V10 Twin turbo RS6 engine (650bhp) V12 merc amg turbo (650bhp) Or even if it falls in the budget a viper V10 engine (550bhp) Now I really want to see 400bhp per ton and as a Carlton with any of the above set up would be around 1500-1700kgs so its not really out of the way. Im looking at around £5-£7k for the bodykit, paint, wheels and trim. So approx £10k for the running gear. Am I missing anything out? Whats peoples ideas? It wouldnt be built to be sold it would be for car shows, odd trackday, and weekends. A real LC would be for the same thing but is always going to be worth more than the replica even with whatever running gear but at approx twice the price. Now in 2014/15 i think a LC wouldnt cut it Ive had powerfull cars before 400bhp cossy,240bhp metro YES I KNOW, got a 300bhp mk2 cav at the mo 400bhp on nos. Loads of 300-350bhp nissans, audis, bmws etc So the next step up is a LC for me. A real LC is around £8k for a proper wreck upto about £25k for a nice one not needing much at all. £30k plus Id be scared to drive it let alone abuse and enjoy it. £50k WOULD BE GARAGED ONLY! But as said my budget would be £15-20k
