These are designed to be bite-sized 15 second or less lessons to help you learn the jazz language as easy as possible. Learn a new lick every day and be on your way to be a jazz guitarist. Nothing beats learning directly from watching and since these are so short, you can watch them again and again till you can play the licks. If youve ever been overwhelmed trying to learn long jazz solos and getting nowhere, this series will hopefully help you learn step-by-step even if youve never played jazz licks before. #azguitar Instant Jazz Guitar Licks #16 Todays lick is a lick for F7 inspired by Lage Lund. The line is in F Mixolydian (F G A Bb C D Eb F) and is divided into three parts. The first two parts are 8-note motive sequenced to create a longer phrase. Thr first motive is A Bb C D F Eb D C and the part is the same motive sequenced diatonically: D Eb F G Bb A G F. For this part, the slurs are a huge part of getting a smoother legato sound. the third part is a 4-note motive (Eb F C D) repeated twice. This kind of rhythmic phrase is a throwback to the jagged syncopated rhythms of Thelonious Monk. Mixing these two elements (scalar and more intervallic, rhythmic ideas) in a single phrase is a good way to create interesting phrases. Try this fingering and then experiment with other options to develop your fretboard knowldege. Listen closely to the dynamics and articulation within the line to get the flow of this melody.
