After spending the past 30 minutes at the IV Police Station, I - TopicsExpress

After spending the past 30 minutes at the IV Police Station, I have some unfortunate news that I would like to report to the partygoers, DJs, and students of IV. I spoke the the depute and sgt. of the IVFP regarding the issue of live music being played not only at Deltopia but year around. Without getting too technical (refer to Section 6 of the outdoor festival ordinance), I have been informed that you are not allowed to play music that can be heard by 500 people or over. In their simpler terms, they said that basically includes every balcony, backyard, and even inside of a del playa house. They stated that there will be no more Isla Vista DJ parties. They then continued saying how is it their goal for these up coming months to bring UCSB out of the Top 10 party schools; mentioning that if there is no music, then people will not drive 8 hours from out of town to come party here. ALL DJs caught playing music out of loudspeakers will be arrested, cited, and have their equipment seized. They told me to disregard any rumors that I have heard, and even mentioned the Daily Nexus as an inaccurate source. I only have 3 short months left in Isla Vista, so these changes wont effect me as much as they will the up and coming younger DJs in IV. The deputy stated that these ordinances have always been in place but they have been lenient in letting the parties take place and continue. However, he stated that there is now going to be a zero-tolerance attitude with the IVFP. Until things change, Im not going to be playing in IV anymore. I think the AS board and UCSB students should collaborate in attempt to reform the festival ordinance so the Isla Vista culture can carry on. Without live music, IV will seem lifeless.
