After working at the shelter a while you tend to see which breed/color/etc. of dog gets over-looked. As a shelter employee I spend a considerable amount of time with these dogs. I like to get the dogs out that dont get much attention from adopters/volunteers. Generally, people don’t expect much from a shelter dog. Most of the time we don’t have much background information if we have any at all. What Ive come to find in most cases is pretty spectacular to me. Today I decided to get Mojo out of his kennel. I just expected to get to know him a little bit. Pet him and love on him and see what his energy level was like. What I learned instead is why I love shelter dogs. They surprise you in the most wonderful ways. Mojo has been at the shelter 10 days. That’s a long time for most dogs. Mojo is a 2 ½ year old neutered Shepherd mix. We were told that he wasn’t good with other dogs and that he loves children. Today I found out that Mojo knows the commands sit, shake, back (for back up), stay, in your kennel, and dance! He also got to play with one of our other shelter dogs and loved it! Watch for yourself. Mojo is an amazingly smart dog that is still willing to learn!
