Alans DeRanged World .... A few of you construction guys will understand the meaning .... Long live the builder... Bring back the builder... All over the United Kingdom there are buildings that have stood the test of time having been built by people known as builders. Some of these buildings built by builders have stood for hundreds of years, made from raw materials such as stone, wood, crude hand made bricks and even some straw mixed with mud and animal excrement. Often these buildings built by builders were built using crude tools and hand power. Oh and none of these buildings built by builders came with a guarantee and none of the builders came with a folder full of qualifications just knowledge and ability. Over the passage of time things have changed a builder must spend more time ensuring that he has a folder full of qualifications and insurance polices and that he is using the correct materials and putting his waste in the correct bin, and lets not forget that he must spend his time collating masses of paperwork ready to be inspected at a moments notice and that he is using all the latest carbon footprint low emission all singing all dancing bits and bobs as instructed. One has to wonder if the builder still has time to build anything. Now once upon a time a builders word and his ability and the people he built for was how a builder got to build a building, but now a builder has to gain his work via a recruiter. These clever guys who find the builder work do a great job in ignoring his word and his ability and the recommendations of those the builder has built for in exchange for his folder full of qualifications and pocket full of plastic cards. Often these clever guys called recruiters send the builder to a job he cant do or is not allowed to do so poor old builder gets sent home again to start again looking for an even more clever recruiter. One has to wonder if the builder will get the chance to build anything. In the midst of all this the builder used to use his hands and the materials he sourced and built as he knew how knowing that what he built would stand the test of time and what nature threw at it with confidence that it may well last longer than he would. But alas the builder now builds as he is told, with what he is told, the way he is told. Poor old builder knows that if Mr Wolf comes and blows then Mr Piggy may be in trouble and that the builders work if he is lucky might not fall down in 25 years when the guarantee on the all singing all dancing materials he was forced to use has ran out. One has to wonder if the builder still has a desire to build. Times have changed in the world of builder and he is now in a world with all singing all dancing qualifications and safety paperwork so strict it tells him what underpants to wear on site in case he follows through when he farts. He now has everyone trying their hardest to make it so he cant do what he has always done for hundreds of years. Builder is no longer a man that everyone held in the highest respect he is just a tool like the ones in his hand. One has to wonder where builder lost his status. Now old builder has seen better days, better jobs and better things to work with and has a contender for what little is left of his status, the graduate builder, fresh faced, freshly qualified, does not care what he builds or who for, or even what with, as long as he has his cosy office and all his paperwork to follow. When things go wrong and the paperwork fails to explain how the build is to be built this contender can turn as always to old builder who then imparts his information helps put things right and then continues his downtrodden work for those he does not want to work for in a job he often no longer enjoys. Its a different world for old builder, clever builder, industrious builder, respected builder. Bring back the builder ... Long live the builder he helped make the country get built for hundreds of years.
