Albert (“Big Al”) Leroy Powell, Sr., 83, of Weirton, WV, passed away in peace on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Powell was born August 7, 1930 in Gordon, AL to Owen Powell, Sr. and Lucy (Jones) Powell. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he moved to the Ohio Valley in 1955 and became a longtime resident and active community member of Wintervsville, OH. He spent his life mastering his trade as a journeyman plumber in the Local 490 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and eventually retired as a business owner from Powell Construction. A longtime member of Word of Life Fellowship, Mr. Powell leaves behind a legacy of fortitude, faith, and family commitment. Left behind to remember Albert are: his daughter, Linda Thomas of Weirton, WV; his son, Albert Powell Jr. of Berkeley Springs, WV; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Lucious Patrick of Owasso, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dawn Powell of Steubenville, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Nichole and Jaime Northcraft of New Cumberland, WV; sister, Francha Brown of Pansey, AL; and brother, Edward Powell of Buffalo, NY. Mr. Powell is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends. Mr. Powell was reunited in his heavenly home with his wife, Phyllis (Dameron) Powell; sister, Dixie (Powell) Mitchell; brother, Mac Powell; and brother, Owen Powell, Jr. The family of Albert Powell would like to thank all of the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff members of Weirton Medical Center, Lifeline Hospital, and Allegheny General Hospital for their kindness and care during his time of need. Visitation is scheduled 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday at Mosti Funeral Home on Sunset Blvd. in Steubenville, OH. The funeral service will also be held at Mosti Funeral Home on Thursday at 11am. Messages of sympathy and support, in addition to family photos and videos, may be sent to the family at mostifuneralhome.
