Algeria arrives for Women Championship With thirteen days left before the start of the ninth edition of the CAF Women Championship in Namibia, Algeria were the first of the seven countries to arrive as they touched down at the Hosea Kutako International Airport on Sunday morning. The Algerians, who are in Group B together with powerhouses Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa, arrived from Frankfurt aboard an Air Namibia flight and touched down at 06h30 in the morning to a warm welcome by the LOC and the Algerian Ambassador to Namibia. Algeria head coach Azzedine Chih said the 38-member delegation is here to acclimatize and to continue their preparations in their quest for their first-ever continental triumph at this level. “We are here two weeks before we kickoff our first game and we want to feel the weather and just get going and see what we can do here. We are here to take our chances and see how far we can go. We have a tough group of Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa, teams with world cup and Olympics experience and we know what to expect” he said upon arrival. Chih also revealed that his side will be involved in two friendly matches against the host, the Brave Gladiators as they have a new group players that need to be exposed more. “We have a lot of new players in the team. Young players who are determined to make their mark and playing Namibia will give us a further indication of how we should plan our tactics and get better rhythm and system into our team. It is good to be here and hopefully we can go back with the trophy come October 25” Chih wishes. The Algerians arrival will be followed up by Ghana’s coming at 11h00 and 13h00 via South Africa while the rest of the teams are expected to arrive as from 07 October before the championship kicks off at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, 11 October at 17h00 as the host faces Zambia in Group A. The championship will be free and tickets will be made available through Computicket.
