Als thought for today: Capitalism with a human face brings prosperity but............. there are times when it shows its unacceptable face. I believe that though City Link was always a probable candidate for closure, there are ways of doing such things. The prospect of handing out redundancy notices to thousands of good people is not something that should be done in a cavalier manner. In my days at GKN and HR Turner, I have been deeply involved in such nightmare scenarios and have always tried to be an influence to minimise the tragedy. This can hardly be said of the money men owning City Link. To notify on Christmas Day without prior warning or discussion is in my opinion just about the worst example of the misuse of the capitalist system
