Am I wrong in thinking those of my generation and earlier received a decent education? I mean I can read and write, and spell for the most part. I can fix my own car, grow my own veggies, care for animals and my family. And fairly successfully keep a roof over our heads. Today we got a letter from our sons high school, the same high school I attended. Stating that for next year they wish to implement a bring your own device program so students bring their own laptops to learn as sharing the limited resources in the school is no longer an option. What happened to the days of sharing a box of pens and tearing out a sheet of loose leaf to loan to your buddy who forgot his books. I was educated in a time before the internet. Today we rely on it, we look to it to read other peoples thoughts and opinions to help is form our own. Training our students to be dependent on technology how is this going to educate children. Education to me is giving people the ability to think for themselves, use their brain and not a notebook. Learn how to write, soon humans wont have the skills to write their own name in the sand, or the desire to walk away from their computer long enough to feel the sand on their feet.
