Amar Singh College organized Old Boys Annual Meet [Alumni meet] today on 30th August 2014 at Dr. Taseer Memorial Hall of A.S.College. The meeting was attended by many pass-outs of the college, prominent among them were Prof. Anwar Ashai (President ASCAA), Mr Mohamad Shafi Pandit (Rt. IAS, former Chairman Public Service Commission), Prof. G.M.Dar (Ex. Principal), Mr. Abdul Majeed Bhat (Geoscientist), Prof. Bashir Ahmad Ganai (Director CORD, University of Kashmir), Mr. B.K.Das, Suhail Masoodi, H.S. Soodi (Manager JK Bank), Javid Ahmad Qureshi (Librarian KGP), Surinder Kachroo,and others. Welcome remarks were made by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, [HoD, Sociology & Organizing Secretary] who highlighted the role of Alumni in the development and growth of the institution. Principal, Zahoor Ahmad Chat threw light on the present scenario of education system to be very challenging as compared to the earlier times to cater to the increased role and access rate of students to higher education Institutions. He also highlighted the achievements of the institution both in terms of infrastructure development and academic excellence acting as Nodal college and the lead college of the valley and now declared as the headquarter of Cluster University created under RUSA scheme. Prof. Willayat Rizvi [Head, Department of Botany & Coordinator IQAC] presented the detailed progress report on the latest developments of the institution highlighting the strengths of college and achievements in research and academics. Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Chatt then formally started the discussion session during which alumni present shared their nostalgic experiences. The points which emerged during the discussion session are as under: i) Master plan should be prepared seeking the help from expert town planners and architects for adjusting eight new blocks sanctioned under cluster university establishment under RUSA Scheme. ii) Need to inculcate moral values in students to command the respect of students. iii) Insurance of buildings or adopting safety measures like fire extinguishers and fire proof paints. iv) Need to separate the college from the yoke of University and getting its autonomous status for the growth and development of the college. v) Mr. Abdul Majeed Bhat offered to train students to gem and jewelry industry Prof. Anwar Ashai (President ASCAA0 in his concluding presidential address stressed upon the need for going back to the values of our earlier legendary teachers to inculcate moral values among the students. Prof. Willayat Rizvi extended vote of thanks and Dr. Sheikh Tanveer Salam was the Rapporteur for the event. At the end of the meeting Mr Anwar Ashai, in presence of the Principal and other alumni, inaugurated the centralized pure drinking water facility for the students of the College.
