Aminullahi Ayodabo, a witness called by Governor Rauf Aregbesola confirmed to the election tribunal sitting in Osogbo that there was over-voting. The witness had been called to testify in favour of Aregbesola that the August 9 election that held in the state was free and fair. The matter arising before the Election Tribunal Petition headed by Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime is between the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore and All Progressives Congress, Aregbesola. At the Wednesday sitting, Aregbesola’s counsel called two witnesses, namely Ayodabo and Atanda Isaac, who were cross examined by the counsel to the petitioner, Mr. Nathaniel Oke (SAN). Speaking under cross examination, one of the witnesses, Ayodabo of ward 4, unit 9 in Ede North Local Government said “no voter was chased away from his unit during the election exercise”. But when further examined and confronted that she did not vote during the governorship election, the witness said that his name was ticked for presidential election. Oke proceeded to ask the witness to examine exhibit 191. The petitioner’s counsel after giving room for the examination alleged that there was over-voting. He showed that the total number of voters on the queue before the voting process in his unit was 411, while the total number of valid votes recorded on the election result sheet was 413. Aregbesola’s witness confirmed the over-voting. However, the lead counsel to Aregbesola, Mr Kunle Adegoke informed the tribunal that his client had closed his defence. He said this was because his client has called 19 witnesses to support his claim that he won the gubernatorial election in a free and fair contest. The second respondent, All Progressive Congress (APC) is expected to open its defence on Friday before the tribunal
