Amistad de Los Angeles, the Los Angeles campus of the nonprofit Amity Foundation, is among several residential treatment facilities providing “wraparound services” for probationers, parolees and others seeking help for homelessness, substance addiction, mental illness and other problems. It provides housing, treatment, job training, tattoo removal and other assistance, funded through government contracts and private donations. District Attorney Jackie Lacey held it up as an example of where Los Angeles County can divert men and women with mental illness who are charged with minor crimes so they would not have to languish in jail.
