An interesting statistic I heard on NPR- There tends to be more casualties from hurricanes with womens name than from ones with a mans name. This seems to have nothing to do with how strong the storms are and everything to do with how seriously the storm is taken. Our mostly male oriented society tends not to take (or refuses to take) hurricanes with female names as seriously. Hurricane Ethel could be a level 5 and Hurricane Fred a 3- more preparation will be made for Fred. What silly creatures we are!
