And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from - TopicsExpress

And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:4-5 ESV). To understand Acts 1:4-5, Jesus instructed His disciples to witness to people of all nations about Him (Matthew 28:19-20). But they were told to wait first for the Holy Spirit. God has important work for you to do for Him, but you must do it by the power of the Holy Spirit. We often like to get on with the job, even if it means running ahead of God. But waiting is sometimes part of Gods plan. Are you waiting and listening for Gods complete instructions, or are you running ahead of His plans? We need Gods timing and power [not ours] to be truly effective. This note to help understand Acts 1:4-5 is from the Life Application Study Bible (King James Version).
