And with few exceptions, we refused to learn their language. Is this why some people are so scared, fearing retribution is at hand? In spite of our barbaric beginnings, in spite of the feeling of entitlement by a certain few, this country has grown and has for most of the world, been a beacon. A place where ethnic origins may initially create hardships but ultimately be embraced into our unique melting pot culture. The GOP has largely tried to make this about Mexican criminals with their speaking abut the border and the cartels sneaking across murdering Americans. This immigration reform is about so much more and I believe that any rational person will look beyond the party divide and rhetoric and look at what this actually is. It keeps families together, gives us an opportunity to find criminals without having to wait until they are arrested for a crime, and enlarges our tax base, spreading the burdens among many of those hiding for fear of deportation. My ancestors were English, Scottish, French and Irish, some of them came legally, some may not have but that doesnt make me, several generations later, any less American than those that initially landed on Plymouth Rock. We all need to think about that and stop bashing the President because he is trying to govern in the spirit of America.
