#Anil #Ambani deposes, goes back on #2G statement . #Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani appeared in court on Thursday answering questions about his company’s alleged links with firms facing a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the 2G telecom spectrum scam. CBI counsel UU Lalit asked him about the links between Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL) and Swan Telecom, which prosecutors allege was a front company of the Ambani-led RTL. “I am not aware,” Ambani responded during a packed court-room proceeding that lasted nearly four hours. “I attend a large number of meetings, I don’t recall (each one),” he said when asked about the minutes of meetings at which he was allegedly present to discuss Swan Telecom’s finances. Lalit told the CBI court that Ambani, a prosecution witness, was “resiling” or retracting from his previous statement and requested special judge OP Saini to allow him to cross-examine the industrialist. The court asked Ambani if he was “under any threat, pressure or coercion” from any quarter. As Ambani denied being under threat or pressure, the judge observed, “The witness apparently appears to be making his statement freely and without any pressure or coercion.” Ambani denied Swan Telecom was a Reliance Group (earlier known as Reliance ADAG) front company set up for the purpose of securing telecom licences and spectrum. His wife Tina Ambani will appear in court as a CBI witness on Friday. RTL and its three executives are facing trial in the 2G scam.
