Another Sangha response on Yoga for Introverts (abridged), and Thank You !!! "I make sure I have alone time, as it is for me an essential way to replenish, especially after times of stress, or when I have been for too long in a crowded environment. I also need daily “quiet” time (probably because I am a chronically Vata deranged person). Securing this alone time may mean having to say “no” to people which is not always easy. Alternately, I sometimes am silent and go inward in the mist of people (be it at home or in public places). I make sure that I balance my alone time with social time, otherwise aloneness becomes loneliness. My Ayurvedic teacher often talks about aloneness and often tells us that we need to be “completely” alone to connect with our center or true Self, as it is a journey inward that nobody can walk for us (and as he kindly reminds us, we will die alone). Introversion also means that we leave daily life, feelings and thoughts at the periphery. We can then, watch these feelings and thoughts from the center with detachment, watch our fears or anger as an impartial spectator until they disappear, look at things with equanimity. This should ultimately lead us to pure awareness and greater compassion. This really affected my yoga practice as my practice is not anymore a series of asanas good for my physical body, but it becomes part of a much bigger scheme; a first step on the path of enlightenment..."
