Another excerpt from The Rat King Here in our centre where morals and reason are but thin layers surrounding us, we sit and listen to the selves debate. Deafening is the roar from the souls gaping maw! Subtle and slight is the satisfaction when fed, so much so that some care not to nourish themselves at all! Hear me now partisans! When a problem emerges and you feel an inner divide as the voices begin and the soul yells ever louder to be fed...ignore the fleeting voices. They are walls of your own flesh, meant to distract you from the voice that really matters. Know that even when lamenting or raging, your soul has a voice! The jester finished his own eulogy and with a clinking of silver bells, threw himself onto the pyre. By morning a throng of curious onlookers gathered at the edge of the still smoldering coals. The town had always despised the creature known as the Jester, a seemingly timid man of small stature. He had never hurt or spited anyone, never molested or stole. They hated him for his eyes! There was no one in the village that didnt see their own lives reflected without their ego or pomp. They saw themselves for what they really were and they despised him for it. A wave of silence hit the mob. Their Elder emerged from the smoke holding the Jesters soul in his hand. On this special fire people are burned away from themselves and their souls are forged by the licking flames. Now, held above the crowd was a silver statuette of the three eyed lion god, Hath. Cold fear struck the crowd and with a collective moan they resigned themselves to death. Haths third eye is a mirror, his claws are scales and his station is that of judgement.
