Any Muslim who defends the right to, shows support for or in any way condones the mocking of the Prophet peace be upon him has committed apostasy and left the fold of Islam. This is not an issue of fiqh, which we can differ over, but an issue of kufr and iman. The scholars of the past took exception to the slightest attempt to disrespect so seriously that the first person to ever abbreviate the words sallallahu alayhi wassalam in Arabic resulted in having his hands chopped off as stated by Imam as-Suyuti. The path of condemnation is a slippery slope that leads to compromising core Islamic principles in a pursuit of acceptance from those who Allah has informed us will never be pleased with us. Yet as we see time and time again, it is not possible to please them without leaving the fold of Islam. Today’s condemnations will be met with further request for condemnations that ultimately fail to appease while also reinforcing a racist narrative. Allah SWT says: Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you until you follow their religion.” Muslims now are defending the ‘right’ to mock the Prophet peace be upon him. How low we have stooped as an ummah that not only do people feel shy to defend the most blessed of all creation but that they actually participate in and justify the right to mock him. Their mocking and attempts to dishonour our beloved Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wassalam do not in any way dishonour him. For centuries people have attempted to dishonor and ridicule the best of creation to there own detriment both in this world and the next. Those who mock and ridicule him will be forever thrown into the rubbish bin of history, while his honour will continue to stand the test of time until the Final Hour. Sheikh Anwar Al-Awlaki may Allah have mercy on him said, “The one who insults the Prophet (peace be upon him) is like the one who looks directly up at the sun and spits at it - his spit falls back on his face”. May Allah paralyse the hands and tongue of the parasites that dare to justify or incite against the best of creation, ameen.
